3. My thoughts about bringing the iplayer to other devices was correct.
If you don't break the DRM on the download version, re-transcode
the streaming version, make the content available outside of the UK
(break the GeoIP) and finally not screw with the actual content
streams. Your able to build what you like, for any platform under
the backstage licence.
Does "re-transcode the streaming version" mean no conversion to Ogg Theora? :-(
Does "not screw with the actual content streams" mean no remixing into
new works?
What about storing the streams indefinitely in their original encoding?
So I want to tackle each thing separately at the moment.
If its possible to bring BBC Programme to devices and other players
without breaking anything then lets make sure we do that before things
change. The remixing and transcoding issues I believe can be worked out
but I don't want to cloud the issue before we even started.
So if your building a iplayer for an exotic device platform, do get in touch.
Does Gnash count?
Gnash counts of course because it allows GNU/Linux users to watch BBC
programmes without using closed source (non-free) software. This is a
good thing.
