It's not google - but teleatlas, or ...'s mapping at the moment, styled by google.

That said - in the US, google have recently gone from purchasing maps, to using their own in-house mappery, based on their streetview efforts.

This means they have a _lot_ more freedom on what they can do with the maps.

OS maps at 1:10000 or so scale leave lots out - they aren't usable alone.
