Hi, all,

One of the partitions I backup has been faling lately. In the general log
file I see this when it dies:

"Can't fork at [...]/BackupPC/lib/BackupPC/Lib.pm line 1168"

And this is what the Last bad XferLOG for that host says:

-----------------------------
Contents of file /backup/BackupPC/pc/burdata01lx_corpus/XferLOG.bad.z,
modified 2006-01-26 17:42:21

Executing DumpPreUserCmd: /opt/local/BackupPC/bin/preDump.sh burdata01lx
/corpus_snapshot
Running: /usr/bin/ssh -q -x -l root burdata01lx /usr/bin/rsync --server
--sender --numeric-ids --perms --owner --group --devices --links --times
--block-size=2048 --recursive . /corpus_snapshot/
Xfer PIDs are now 16351
Read EOF: Connection reset by peer
Tried again: got 0 bytes
Done: 0 files, 0 bytes
Executing DumpPostUserCmd: /opt/local/BackupPC/bin/postDump.sh burdata01lx
/corpus_snapshot burdata01lx_corpus
Got fatal error during xfer (Unable to read 4 bytes)
Backup aborted (Unable to read 4 bytes)
-----------------------------

Has anybody encountered this before? All "clients" are aliased to the same
host, and this is the only one that fails in that way, so I don't think
it's an SSH error, as suggested in one post in January (but feel free to
prove me wrong).

I see a high memory usage on the client at the time the backup dies. I
added a bunch of files recently to that partition. Could this be related to
the usual rsync memory usage issues with large numbers of files? All other
backups are working fine (except for some error on the home partition
related to the number of hard links), and finish correctly.

Thanks in advance.
Bernardo Rechea
