Bare metal restore is tricky. There are two things needed to make it work 1) a backup of all the files on the box 2) a toolset for putting it back. Both are problematic. A full backup means getting windows registry hives which mean some sort of open file manager or snapshot driver is needed - as far as I know there are no open source ofm products. Putting the data back means reconstructing the filesystem - support in Linux/FreeBSD for NTFS is not good and as far as I'm aware BackupPC does not capture all of the extended access control file attributes.
