I'm setting up a disk-to-disk backup server with CentOS 4 as the O/S on the backup server. Our small business office is a number of systems using Windows XP Home and Macintosh systems. The server is together and apparently working.
However, in order to backup a Windows laptop, I'd have to open up SMB sharing on the Windows systems, and that raises a number of security issues. What are the recommendations for doing this most securely? So far, it's been policy to simply not have laptops with SMB sharing ever turned on.
