1. Smbclient : ls -a does not work in smbclient
2. I can access all files. I can even "tar c" them if only I know their full
names
3. what I did find up to now :
        a. samba version 3.0.12 does this
        b. samba version 3.0.9-2.3-SUSE correctly
        c. new version (the one that is not working) has new commands
hardlink-listconnect-showconnect
        d. installed the newest (3.0.25) on machine... gues what ... does not
work either (approx 30 entries)
        e. on an old machine, installed 9.2 suse and everything works ok
(smbclient)

WEIRD WEIRD WEIRD

so the upgraded version DOES NOT work... I'm going into the samba mailing list

Yes, this does take some options to configure, but it can be done.

This is an extremely strange issue. ls by default should show all files. Have
you tried "ls -a"? Besides that, experts are going to have to take over.

This is most likely an issue with Windows or Samba, not ls itself.

Very strange... can you access all files through a GUI of some kind?

I'm not surprised you haven't found an answer yet - it does sound very unique.

As for the BackupPC software not logging in correctly, I'll bet that's a
configuration issue.

I'm not much of a help at this point - someone else is going to have to give
him an answer.
