This error happens when the client responds too slowly for smbclient. Your network is showing worst case 14.5 second ping round trips. That does suggests this is the cause of the problem. But I backup all the time over WLAN and it works well. Perhaps you need to install extra APs on different channels (eg: 5GHz) to get some better connectivity.
