What version of Samba are you running? I think the latest version has lots of
improvements for Vista.
We are using 3.0.25a to backup Vista clients with no problems.

Subject: [BackupPC-users] BackupPC and MS-Vista Desktops
HI,
since the day I had to install in my home network a new Destop with Vista I
started to face a lot of interconnectivity problems.
BackupPC is one of them.
I'm trying to backup just the Users directory. I properly set the sharing and
the painful access permissions for that dir and all the subdirs.
Now the Linux (Fedora 6) server can see the share, but as soon as it tries to
browse it, it fails as it finds hidden directories like "All Users" that I
realized (after a lot of pain) is actually a SYMLINKD (I guess a symbolic link
- unix like). Backuppc software fails for timeout on that directory. I also see
additional failures about directories like "Default User". This time it is a
JUNCTION (what is that ???) from the Vista point of view.
Do you have any experience of backuppc running on a Vista desktop? Any tricks I
should know?
Tx in advance.
Fabio
