This definitely shouldn't happen.  Other than chaning the expiry
schedule for backups, no configuration changes should cause a
backup to be deleted.

Does the numbered backup directory still exist (eg, TOPDIR/pc/HOST/nnn)?
If so, are you saying it is now empty?
