You can install BackupPC on a second machine.

You can use bin/BackupPC_zcat to view the uncompressed contents of a  
file from a terminal. You can use bin/BackupPC_tarCreate and bin/ 
BackupPC_zipCreate to create tar and zip archives of backups and then  
use those to restore files. Note that you need to run any BackupPC  
command as the user you used to install BackupPC.
