It appears to be a loss of network connectivity during the backup. The ping failures definitely support that thesis too. The root cause could be one of a variety of things: various hardware failures, running out of memory etc. > I tried running the command from lexington's command line, and it worked for > a fewe minutes, then... > > -rw-r--r-- storm/storm 2846208 2005-07-05 18:34 ./home/docs/dol/Final > Worksheets.doc > ./home/docs/PeoplePower Risk Assessment.doc > -rw-r--r-- storm/storm 2445312 2005-07-05 18:34 ./home/docs/PeoplePower Risk > Assessment.doc > tar: Unexpected EOF in archive > tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now > > ssh works from lexington to defiant, as does tar. By "the command" do you mean just a ssh/tar command (without BackupPC)? If so, then, yes, this is a network problem and not related to BackupPC.
