A network-exported filesystem via samba doesn't support hard links,
which are necessary for BackupPC. (Native NTFS does, though. But you
would have to install BackupPC on you Windows machine, and even then I'm
not sure if it would work.)

In terms of disk space, you could export an image file via NBD to you
linux machine [1]. But you won't be able to access the data from your
Windows machine.
