But unfortunately BackupPC and in particular perl-File-RsyncP do
not. So BackupPC will only back up the file data and not the metada
such as resource forks.

I am a strong advocate of extending BackupPC to allow for backing up
extended attributes and acls -- this would be useful for Macs (as noted here),
Linux (e.g., SELinux), and Windows (ACLs). It seems like such a useful
and necessary extension if you want to be able to have a true backup
system that gets as close as possible to bare metal backups.
