That summary will probably end up as a wiki page, but the wiki is not yet on the list of things to be immediately done. Meanwhile, there must be an interim place where to park this kind of stuff and make it easily accessible to contributors (the howto for GIT beginners that emerges from Mauros and Lars' input, along with the links to documentation, is a similar and additional issue). These things should not be allowed to shift into way-off email oblivion.
