Hello,
I've spent an enormous amount of time working on 1.38.3 trying to stabilize
it.
The good new is:
- I've found a good number of additional bugs.
- I've fixed all the major bugs reported (including the major ones with
wx-console).
- I'm 90% sure I found the problem plaguing Arno with the device
not being released before calling the autochanger script.
- I figured out what the problems with run_grub in the rescue disk are.
- I've corrected the problems with the rpm rescue disk (no static-fd was
installed.
- In the process of working on the rescue disk, I totally wiped out my
OS with a stupid mistake with a loopback device. It destroyed most
of the files in /boot, a good number in /lib including libc, and zapped a
number of files in /etc. Well, this wasn't fun, but it was good news
because I had to re-install grub. Well, between the Bacula rescue disk
(fortunately I had one) and a current Bacula backup, I got my system
back up and figured out how to run grub-install in the process. grub is
really not made to be installed on a minimal system as it needs a *huge*
number of files!!!!
The bad news is:
- In the process of doing all this, I realized that the new reservation system
has totally perturbed the wait routines within the SD. These routines were
not originally designed to be awaken at arbitrary times, but that is exactly
what is required by the reservation system -- everything must wake up when
a job terminates or a tape changes so that the system can update itself.
To correct this, I had to make changes to some very low level routines that
I have not touched for years. The result is that all seems to be working
better, but that I must test *every* single case of mounting, unmounting
tapes, errors, ... This is a laborous manual process that will take time
before I am comfortable with how it runs ...
As I feel the versions become stable, I will be releasing additional BETA
versions of 1.38.3 ... Hopefully, in the near future, it will be stable
enough that I can release it into production.
