No, not to my knowledge.

The reason is that, along with the SD, the tool bscan is built, too 
(which you'll probably want). Bscan needs access to the catalog, so 
you need these libraries, too.

The extra load of actually compiling and linking the DIR itself is 
more or less negligible, so you simply build all of the programs and 
don't install the DIR. There's no need to actually create a catalog, 
but you do need the database development libraries.
