There has to be some critical judgement and sifting used regardless.
When historians study Jesus they don't take the Biblical Gospels at
face value. And I would say that especially coming from that
perspective, the other books like the Gospel of Thomas or the Acts of
John or the Gospel of Peter are another alternative source of
historical information which gives indications about Jesus.
