Dear Firestorm, You asked me to
"show me the cite." Firestorm, I can "prove" many contradictory things by citing a few words or a few paragraphs from our Writings; just as Christian believers in Biblical literalism can prove many contradictory things by citing a few words or a few paragraphs from the Bible. I refuse to play that game, and I feel that using our beloved Baha'i Writings in that manner is beneath the dignity that those Writings deserve. Instead, I cite the entire Iqan as the source of my beliefs about infallibility as it relates to science and reason. I certainly cannot state the case any better nor any shorter than did Baha'u'llah. If anyone can read the whole Iqan, and still come away believing in the literal infallibility (as opposed to symbolic infallibility) of scripture, in passages where that scripture contradicts human reason and science, then there is not one word I can say to change their mind. Susan, with all due respect, you can call my views by funny names all you want, but if you can read the Iqan and not coem to understand the truly disastrous results of insisting on the literal truth of scripture when such a reading of scripture conflicts with science and human reason, then I can not say anything to change your mind. Dr. Maneck wrote: My point is that if you approach the topic as belligerently as your last post, that is bound to be the case."" Huh? What do you find "belligerent" about my post? I sincerely was not being belligerent in any way. I pointed out an area of disagreement about "infallibility" that I personally fear will cause (indeed already is causing) great harm to our community. And frankly, to me it is just not humouous, but rather tragic.
