The Belden Store, now that brings back memories. I had bought many a
pair of pants and boots from them as a youth. Got a pretty fair share
of the freely handed out candy as well. :D

I think the best story I have of that place though was a day back in
the late 70s when my stepfather and I stopped in and during the course
of conversation ol' Melvin asked my stepfather what he was up to. As
it turns out he had bought a much older than expected hay wagon and
couldn't locate wheel bearings for it, gone to every place in New
Town, Stanley, and finally Minot where the national search begun.
Well, the "almost identical" bearings that nobody could find for this
circa 1917 wagon wouldn't last. So Melvin out of curiousity asked if
we had one of these impossible to find bearings to show him. Upon
inspecting the bearing Melvin said, "you know, I think I have
something like this; I'll be right back".

Sure enough, he disappeared into the back door and reappeared about
ten minutes later with a box full of bearings. That old hay wagon ran
for several more years off those bearings we picked up that day in
Belden.

Great place, I think of it and the owners every time I drive by and
then I smile.
