As a bit of a documentary junkie it dawned on me today that in each
documentary I've seen - all of them - about terrorism or anything near
it - they always play the Athan or call To Prayer in the background. I
think this is one of the ways Islamophobia has been propagated. After a
while anyone who watches these programs is going to equate the sound of
the athan to the idea of "terrorism". Has anyone else noticed this? If
not, pay attention to it the next time you watch any program about
"terrorism"
I put quotes around "terrorism" because one of the other ideas that the
western media has implanted into our brains is the idea of any Muslim
defending himself - is terrorism! As if a Muslim who is being attacked
should simply raise his hands in the air and beg his attacker not to
kill him! A good example of this is the case of Omar Khadr. You can
read about him in his profile
<http://freedetainees.org/omar-ahmed-khadr> as well as the numerous
stories

I've posted about him. Self-defense is not terrorism, it is
self-defense. Another good example of this is Iraq. It's something to
think about. Everyone has the right - obligation really - to protect
him or herself as well as his or her people, or country. In the US we
certainly take pride in our troops. What's the difference?

Almost all of the footage shown on Muslims is footage from third world
countries. You don't see everyday Muslims being doctors, lawyers,
professionals, therefore many tend to think that Muslims are a
"backward" people. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact
Muslims are in general very educated people with a very high (higher
than ours) percentage of professionals, scientists and the like. Before
anyone was doing anything like it, Muslims were doing cataract surgery
and inventing algebra! Just a thought.

So before you inadvertently let yourself be swayed, even rambunctiously
by the mainstream media - ask a Muslim! Read about Islam. Especially
those of you who believe that the Qur'an contains nothing but violent
verses - pick up an English translation of the Qur'an - read it for
yourself and - ask a Muslim! Be educated.

Peace,
Linda
