Hi all,
I've been wondering how you would backup a (mobile) client, as in your
personal laptop, or an office workstation?
The issue with clients in general is that they're not always on, so a
fixed schedule is difficult to achieve. Moreover, a laptop does switch
networks, or may not have a connection at all. If it has an internet
connection, It's probably not a static IP. For me, the next issue is
that I use a dual-boot set-up with Win8.1 and Arch Linux. I guess in
theory I could simply start backups manually without too much hassle,
but then I would have to actually do it.
I thought that a good timeframe for a backup may be something like half
an hour after it is started - you can check something quick without any
impact, but you can be rather sure that you get a backup if the laptop
is on for a while. No idea though on how to start something like this.
One idea I had was to install a Director on the laptop, make backups
locally and then "move and import" the backup in the "primary" director.
Could that be done, at least for Linux?
Another idea I've been thinking about was to use OwnCloud or something
like that to sync important Files to a "always on" device, and backup
them from there.
Any ideas, comments?
