Is the (hardware) compression really vendor specific? I have not found
a reference that the LTO guarantee for backward compatibility is not
valid for compression, which is ON by default in most cases anyway. I
have checked the HP LTO-4 used for writing and for sure compression is
ON, but unfortunately we don't have a LTO-6 HP drive at hand to test
reading.
