I think I may have found the issue but I'm not 100% sure as this is the first
time I'm running into this issue...

The file system the database is on is ext3 and I've found references to a data
file over a couple of gig causes issues with speed. The data file for mysql is
22gb in size (and yes, I'm running the cron cleanup job on it). This is only
for a couple of months of email.

I found this performance issue when I found another article about a possible
duplicate key in the database for baruwa. I started on the process to clean it
up and it was taking hours to drop the database (not to mention the time to
make a backup of it).

Should I look at moving this file to another partition formatted with say XFS
or some other format that would work better with large files?

 Thanks!
   Scott

Am not really sure what the issue is on your install, i know of installations
with larger databases than that which don't have a problem processing reports.

Its hard to debug blind.
