The first is: what is the format for values of this bbdb-file-remote variable? I don't see any documentation (if someone will answer, I will supply the documentation as a patch!). Do we use tramp or something here? A problem with this is that the mechanism does not seem to accommodate the possibility that one will be operating temporarily without access to the bbdb-remote-file (or am I missing something?). It does not seem to check for later connection if the bbdb-file is saved while unable to connect to the remote file. Nor does it seem to consider the possibility of a conflict in updates that needs to be resolved. But as many times before, I may be overlooking something! Would it be reasonable to have the bbdb file store some kind of cookie when it is saved so that a client to a remote bbdb file would be able to see if the local and remote files are synchronized? Or would it make sense to use the bbdb timestamp field to check its records?
