That seems like a reasonably good off-the-shelf solution for managing the 
merge problem.  I was just wondering, have you tried to add any automation to 
the process of committing?  E.g., have you tried automating the commit when 
the bbdb file changes?  I was wondering because it seemed to me that the 
human part in this procedure might be the weak link.
