I am trying to get rid of another pop-up issue.

I am not 100% sure that I understand what happens, but this is what I
think is happening.

I have turned off some pop-ups using these:

    (setq bbdb-mua-pop-up nil)

    (setq bbdb-completion-display-record nil)

and I can now read my mail with gnus without getting any BBDB popups.
However if I do a BBDB search, such that I have a *bbdb* buffer, then
whenever I visit a new sender, the *BBDB* pops up displaying a record
for the new sender.

As far as I can tell, the behaviour is turned on when there is a *BBDB*
buffer. If I delete that buffer, gnus goes back to the previous
behaviour of not popping up windows with bbdb records for those I read
mail from. Also, the criteria for being "new" seems to be whether the
sender has his record displayed in *BBDB* or not, if it is not there,
bbdb will retrieve the record and append it to the *BBDB* buffer. If the
record is already there, the *BBDB* buffer does not pop up. Typing 'q'
in the *BBDB* doesn't help, it does delete the window but the *BBDB*
buffer is just buried and thus will pop up again when a new sender is
encountered.

Is there any way to turn this behaviour off?

I have tried to 'apropos' on bbdb-.*display but couldn't find anything
that seemed to cover this.
