And if this isn't the desired effect, you can always turn off auto-expand tabs 
on a file-by-file basis using the menu in the toolbar or modifying the Text 
Options settings. For the scripters in the group, I'm sure it would be possible 
to write a script which turns off this setting and (a) bind it to a key 
combination and (b) batch process a group of files.
