I have to say that this makes no sense to me as a desired standard
behavior for cursor movement.
For me, this is a more likely situation:
As I was walking near the fence,
Large muddy boots.
Falling from the limbs of the tree,
to
As I was walking near the fence, the door opened before me
Large muddy boots.
Falling from the limbs of the tree,
So I'm writing along, I finish the first line and move the cursor
down a few lines. Opps, I forgot a period where I finished typing.
Standard cursor behavior returns me to where I was before I moved the
cursor, ready to add that period. With the idea of returning the
cursor to where I _started_ typing, I would be five words away from
where I needed to be. If I wrote longer, more cogent sentences,
there's no telling how far away I would be from where I left off.
I can understand your illustration and understand how it might apply,
but for me it would be a very limited application. I prefer the
current cursor behavior.
Best wishes.

Ah yes, now I get it!
Yes, I'd like things to work as YOU describe, where text + down (or up)
arrow results in the position equal to where you started entering text,
instead of ending it.
