Yay! The gentoo-2.6.18 kernel with the wireless-2.6 patch from
lwfinger.dynalias.org/patches makes it work great! Larry, you have
made my day- thank you. The only issue is that the following continues
to be shown throughout dmesg:

bcm43xx: ASSERTION FAILED (0) at:
drivers/net/wireless/bcm43xx/bcm43xx_leds.c:260:bcm43xx_leds_update()

but that's a side effect that seems to be causing no noticeable issues
(processor usage or performance-wise).
