If your soil is worn out bc would do that to the plants, that is what I would 
expect.  It would create luxurient top growth that had nothing to grow in.  I 
will be using bc/equisetum on our strawberries starting this week, no 
worries, awesome fruit last year and previously.  Judicious use of 
silica/nettles helps work wonders.  I have soil that is edible, looks like 
carrot cake without the frosting, mmm good...SStorch
