Schmeiser's appeal will come to the Canadian Supreme Court in the near future. The issue there will be the protection of a patent already extended to a lifeform, will it not? It will be interesting to see how it comes out at that level. -Allan

One faint glimmer of hope: the Supreme Court of Canada last week refused to allow the patenting of the Harvard mouse - no patents on life forms. I haven't read the decision, but it may help to restrain some of this biotech in years to come.
