Follow steps 1 -> 3:

Then either:

sudo sh -c "echo 'BB-UART1' > /sys/devices/platform/bone_capemgr/slots"

or:

/boot/uEnv.txt

cape_enable=bone_capemgr.enable_partno=BB-UART1
