The latest packages (0.6.4a) I built on 4.14 kernel (AFAIK it's Debian 9.5, 
stretch). You're correct, I should have built on 4.4 kernel instead. The 
packages built on the old kernel installs and runs on the newer, but 
obviously not vice versa.

For now, the latest image (Debian 9.5, stretch) and installing the 
linux-headers will solve your problems. I've to find a solution for better 
handling the versions in future.
