Kind of on the same path as the barcode discussion, i had an idea to write a
catalog for comics based on the barcode. My problem was in decoding what the
barcode meant. As in what information is encoded in it? I know grocery stores
use them for pricing etc., but how do they get that information? Do they have
their own private database with that information in it? Is there a standard
for bar codes somewhere? I have tried doing some searches before on the web,
but came up empty.
In short, if I were to get a barcode for a comic, based on just that code, how
could I obtain the Title and issue number?
Chris
ps I did have an idea of having people submit the bar codes and title/issue
number for their book to a server database somewhere, that others would have
access to. So that when you scan the code, it would access this and fill out
the information for you. Only problem is the start up would be user intensive,
and rely on user input to be accurate.

/me stops rambling.
