oh, and just to be clear (since i suppose it wasn't by me saying that i was looking at the regexes in other modules to accomplish this) this is, as someone else (on this list) once told me "masturbation with code". i can do what i set off to accomplish but i just wanted more and it annoyed me that i couldn't figure out how to parse this with a regex. i also feel the education might be worth the masturbation time.
