Sounds like a good idea -- and for lots of low hanging fruit, there are
many (probably hundreds of) F/OSS software package not yet in SFE that
are known to build on Solaris/OpenSolaris (albeit some with patches).
So maybe as a first step(?) it'd be useful to collaboratively put
together a list of what those are. Because from there it's easy for
people to go start test-compiling and submitting (e.g. on a wiki) each
package's build parameters (e.g.  build/make/install options) and any
existing patches if necessary.

Then from there, as you point out, the pkgbuild tools pretty much take
care of almost all the rest of the work of getting them into the form
of SVR4 packages!
