Hello, I was told to be bit more descriptive. I am trying to install belenix onto my hard drive I downloaded 0.6.1 iso, burned it on to a cd, and tried installing it onto the hard drive using hdinstaller.
After completing the installation and rebooting Grub menu shows up, and after that when it tried to boot I get this error: multiboot is longer used to boot the Solaris Operating System The Grub entry should be changed to: kernel$ /platform/i86/pc/kernel/$ISADIR/unix module$ /platform/i86pc/$ISADIR/boot_archive See http://www.sun.com/msg/SUNOS-8000-AK for details. Press any key to reboot if I follow these instructions, and reboot and then edit grub lines to show exactly as specified, then I get an error Booting Command-list root (hd0,0,a) Filesystem type is ufs, partition type 0xbf kernel$ /platform/i86pc/kernel/$ISADIR/unix loading '/platform/i86pc/kernel/$ISADIR/unix'... cpu: 'GenuineIntel' family 15 model 2 step 9 amd64: CPU does NOT support long mode amd64: CPU does NOT support amd64 executables. module$ /platform/i86pc/$ISADIR/boot_archive loading '/platform/i86pc/$ISADIR/boot_archive' ... Error 20: Multiboot kernel must be loaded before modules Press any key to continue... when I press a key, it takes me back to grub menu. ------Note: I just realised that although I tried this on 3-4 different machines, they all were P4 machines, I am gonna try it on Amd64 machine tonight and see what happens then, I'll post again if there is anything different. Moreover, I think there is another bug, related to USB installer. I tried installing it on USB too..that didn't work either. when I tried that, Its starts by: Select the device you wish to install to from the following list: 1: /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0p0 4.8 GB ST650211 CF 0811 USB Enter your choice (1,q)?1 <<<<I selected 1 WARNING: All data on your USB storage will be lost. Are you sure you want to install to ST650211, MB at /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0p0 ? (y/n) <<<< I find it peculiar there is no # in front of MB On pressing y, I get WARNING: USB stick too small This version looks for a USB of minimum size 512Mb <<<<<Mine is 5Gig :) Then it proceeds into describing into what to do if you USB stick is smaller than 512....my problem is that right now smallest one I've got is 2G ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Josh Glover <[email protected]> Date: Jul 18, 2007 6:20 PM Subject: Re: [belenix-discuss] hdinstaller To: Gurpreet Singh <gsbhamra at gmail.com> Cc: belenix-discuss at opensolaris.org On 19/07/07, Gurpreet Singh <gsbhamra at gmail.com> wrote: > My first poke at opensolaris, live cd is great but obviously slow. I booted up on the BeleniX 32 bit LiveCD as detailed here: http://jmglov.blogspot.com/2007/07/opensolaris-journal-i-belenix-livecd.html Running /usr/bin/hdinstaller in a KTerm allowed me to install to the hard drive, as per: http://www.genunix.org/wiki/index.php/Belenix_FAQ#How_do_I_install_BeleniX_to_harddisk_.3F I repartitioned my whole disk to one Solaris partition, and then used auto layout for the rest (selecting slices for swap, /usr and /opt). Let GRUB install to the MBR, set my root password, and then the system rebooted off the hard drive into BeleniX. I'll try to write a quick OpenSol journal on this soon. > I've searched google for clues as to how to fix, but all I could find is > multiple page listing the error but no solution that would work :( So when you get an error, please post the exact output if possible. That way, people know what is going wrong and can help. -- Cheers, Josh -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
