I hate to say it, it was "one of those days." We had 15 dogs entered and 2 no-shows. We had 2 dogs in Open, 1 in Open Brace, and 10 in Novice.
One Open dog passed - Maize, owned by Mary-Ann Bowman. The Open Brace team passed - Ready and Chase - Ready owned by Valerie Horney and Chase owned by Dottie Schulte. And one Novice dog passed - Bud, bred by Mary-Ann (he is her first Versatility Dog that she has bred) and owned by Val Horney. There were 2 Novice Freight Hauls, each with 5 dogs. Zyla and I had the dubious honor of participating on the second freight haul, the "Haul of Shame" - we had all failed in the ring. I am joking about the "shame" because just to have a dog pulling a cart is an achievement, and this is supposed to be fun. But I have participated in quite a few Draft Tests and have NEVER been on a freight haul where not one dog was passing up to that point. The judges were great, the test was fair. All I can say is quite a few dogs behaved in ways they never have before - including mine. I have some clues on my dog's miserable performance which I will share later because it might help someone else. I'm too tired after the Barktoberfest today - which was GREAT. Judge Lisa Ebnet and her hard-working helpers Valerie Horney and Dottie Schulte did an awesome job in the conformation ring. Judge Mary Rogers and helper Karen Baru provided great experience in the obedience ring. Also, we had 20 out of 22 dogs pass the Canine Good Citizen test. Many thanks to Joanna Hughes who jumped into the registration fray and helped manage the conformation ring all day. Many others helped as well, especially our hostess Patti Morgan. There were lots of new faces in attendance, including some hopeful-Berner owners. Somehow during the day my dog Zyla had time for her appointment with photographer Ann Nichols. It was a great day!
