Tim,

Don't think that blindness will necessarily preclude Gandalf from
running free and enjoying life! Just a few extra commands will help
tremendously. We taught our Sam the commands, up, down, over, under, and
careful. That was about it! And when we called him, we clapped until he
came.

We learned to watch as he ran after the other dogs, and we would call
out if there was any obstruction. He would stop, and carefully
negotiate. I tried teaching Left and Right, but he could never quite get
the hang of those. He seemed to do all right without them! He learned
to trust that we would keep him safe, and when he first came to us - he
was timid and hesitant. After a few months, he would run after the other
dogs and just have a grand time!

Blindness is an obstacle, it is not the end of enjoyment!
