Hi all, Yet another bunch of questions about the following text in Section 2.2 of RFC 9062<https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc9062#section-2.2>:
The EVPN PE SHOULD advertise any MEP/MIP local to the PE as a MAC/IP Advertisement route. Since these are not subject to mobility, they SHOULD be advertised with the static (sticky) bit set (see Section 15.2<https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc7432#section-15.2> of [RFC7432<https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc7432>]). 1. Why should MAC addresses of MIPs be advertised in MAC/IP Advertisement routes? To the best of my understanding, these addresses are never used as the Destination MAC addresses in any CFM messages 2. Why should MAC addresses of DOWN MEPs be advertised in MAC/IP Advertisement routes? To the best of my understanding, only the CE can send messages to these MEPs 3. What is supposed to happen if MAC addresses of UP MEPs are NOT advertised in MAC/IP Advertisement routes? T * The quoted text does not make such an advertisement MANDATORY, only REFCOMMENDED * If these addresses are not advertised, CFM functionality that uses unicast messages (e.g., loopback) would not be possible. Your timely feedback would be highly appreciated. E.g., suppose that a given customer site is connected to multiple EVPN PEs via a MH ES operating in All-Active redundancy mode. Suppose further that a DOWN MEPs at the service level are configured on the CE and all these PEs. Since the CE treats the group of links connecting it to all the EVPN PEs as a single LAG, it will send all its CCM messages via just one of the links connecting it to the EVPN PEs, so hat the rest of the PEs will report lost of connectivity with the CE. Is this the expected behavior? Your timely feedback would be highly appreciated.
