I have never deleted old version when installing new. Eventually I do, but I keep them for a while to refer to.
I have never had a problem. When running the installer just name the folder something different than the previous version's folder. All installed versions use the files in the one M-C folder, so all you portfolios, parameters, etc. will work in all installed versions.
