With 31/10 SC 7.0 on XP - I have no problem with CMD window opening when playing AlienBBC or AACplus streams. I can get the CMD widow to open when player.source logging is set Info or Debug.
I found the "checking stream" problem with URLs which are "pls" playlist rather than the URL.
