Thanks for the feedback. The original intent was for ISC to be a SqueezeCenter server and a samba server. The idea with the samba server is that the music library resides on ISC and a novice user can manage it over the LAN as a Windows Share. The only reason that the SC user has write permissions to the music folder is that I used the same user to run SC and for the samba user. I can fix this by adding separate users, but I'm not really sure what danger we're trying to avoid. I've never seen a single report of a rouge SC process mangling a user's music because it was rw.
Of course I figured that people would also want to use external NAS devices, but I figured I'd wait to see how people were trying to use the beta and then figure out the best way to support it. In this case, the advantage of mounting the NAS under the music folder as rw is that the novice user can manage his entire library (internal and external) as the same Windows Share. I intentionally tried to err on the side of simplicity and minimal user interaction during installation. The current configuration doesn't have any normal Linux users since it shouldn't be necessary to log into ISC except for the occasional admin task. With that said, I am interested in adding features, especially those that don't also add complexity for that novice user. -- Fletch ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fletch's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=529 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40818 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/beta
