If you have the missing favorites button, then you must have a post-onebrowser version of 7.6. I'd say that there's no reason not to upgrade. I would not install the release version of 7.6.0, but would install the latest 7.6.1 nightly. There have been a lot of small interface fixes done in just the last two or three days since the release.
I doubt that scanning in the current version would be any worse than the version you have. There hasn't been a lot of major scanner work done in recent months except for an important bug fix for a scanner crashing problem.
