I still think a small NetTop with Windows 7 (check AsRock products) or
a Mac Mini is easier to use as a server.
It is much easier to administrate, can turn into a desktop or a
multimedia box if you feel like it, is low power if you choose it
carefully and much more powerful than most NAS.
I can administrate a big server, but I won't loose time with that at
home, just because this way, I don't have to care about software
availability for those "exotic low performance" hardware.
Add that a lot of people like NAS for RAID, which is a massive
mistake.
They think it is a backup system, and ignore it is everything but
that.
It is a fault tolerance system, requiring technical knowledge, and
usually useless for domestic use.
Marketing liars have a great responsability for this lie.

Sonos recently changed its advertising.
They now present their solution more like a Wireless Music System than
a multi-room system.
I guess they figured out that multi-room attract very few people, and
is scary for those who are looking for a simple solution.
Multi-room is often for technical aware people, or for very rich people
who won't never loose time installing it themselves and won't care about
the price.
It is nice if it can work for those who really want this feature, but I
think it is wise not to scare people talking too much about that.
