Yeah, scanning performance has a lot of room for improvement. Images are slow because the current way thumbnails are being generated is not the fastest (always resizing from the original instead of the previous thumbnail). Same issue with video, although the original is usually much smaller than a multi-MP JPEG. Also for video we are limited by ffmpeg performance.
