My guess is that people made the gcc dll's by dlltool-ing the existing
libs for msvc. These in turn, depend on the redistributable libraries
for msvc which are already present in most systems. But the debug
libraries depend on the debug redistributables. Thus, since these are
present only on systems with msvs we get a crash. It's a theory...
