The best game I played this past weekend would be, without a doubt,
Thurn and Taxis. I'd never played it before, here are my comments
from the "new to you" geeklist:

"Thurn and Taxis (played with Thurn und Taxis - Der Kurier der Fürstin
expansion)
I never dreamed I’d have fun simulating mail delivery in 1490
Germany! ;-) Shares some qualities with Ticket to Ride, but this one
is definitely a step up in complexity. Having played it once and
gotten a feel for the game’s rhythm and strategy, I’m eager to try it
again. The Der Kurier expansion works seamlessly with the game, I
like how it gives extra incentive to visit places that no one has been
to yet, and gives more flexibility on your turn with extra official
actions. It’s interesting to me how much thought has been put into
the theme – historical background in the liner notes, actual landmark
drawings for each town, wonderfully detailed art; but yet, the theme
to me feels abstracted from the game play and mechanisms, much more so
than, for example, games like Power Grid, LOTR- the confrontation and
Mission: Red Planet. Not that that’s a bad thing – among my favorite
games are abstracts, games with perfect theme-mechanism match, and in
between. Just an observation. I unexpectedly left game night having
learned some interesting history about the invention of the mail
system!"

I also really enjoyed Polarity (the magnet game), which was also new
to me. I'm not huge on dexterity games in general, but this one I had
a great time with. I got the hang of "leaners" (leaning your disk
near another one, so the first disk is kind of floating) but didn't
quite learn how to "lie the leaners down" on my next turn - which was
OK, b/c my partner got really good at that. This is the best magnet
game I've played (not that there are a whole lot of them, I can only
think of Rattlesnake off the top of my head).
