I definitely agree with the others -- yet enjoy it anyway. It certainly doesn't feel like any of VC's games, but none of VC's games feel like any other!
To speed the game up, I recommend the "Player Kits" variants on BGG. Also, only play until one of the minor artifacts have been claimed. Don't buy the expansions. They make a long yet almost elegant adventure game into a really long fiddly blech. I didn't find the game funny. It's elegant and somewhat strategic, but not funny. Talisman is funny "HA HA" when your friend turns into a toad.
