Amitabh, I believe that we cannot have true freedom unless our citizens and even the foreigners in India have the right to burn our flag and the constitution. It is best to have such feelings come out than the anger boiling within. In the last 5 months, I have had 2 occasions when I wanted to toss the constitution myself. If the Delhi High Court itself cannot respect the constitution, what good is it?
In any case, respect comes from within. A person may hoist the tricolour on top of his house from dawn to dusk everyday and may be corrupt beyond imagination. Another may want to make an underwear (is illegal) of the tricolour and be an upright man of impeccable integrity and honesty. Virtues such as patriotism cannot be legislated. We waste our time on non-issues when we discuss and get worked up about insult to the flag (even accidental), and obscene song in the movie Bhool Bhoolaiya. Such issues hardly matter to the half-naked and hungry man with a family to feed but not a grain in the mud-house. Shouldn't we be working instead to reduce/eliminate their misery? The Hindi font from Gmail which I used was a huge disappointment. This made me feel like an ass with the Hindi saying (Chaube gaye the chabbe banane, Dube ban ke aa gaye) fitting me like anything. I present the song again- Jana Gana Mana Rann hai Iss rann mein zakhmi hua hai Bharat ka bhagya vidhata Vindhy, Himachal, Yamuna, Ganga mein tezaab ubal rahaa hai Mar gayaa hai sabka zameer jaane kab zinda ho aage Phir bhi tav shubh naame jaage Tav shubh aashish maange As already stated these words from a RGV Film Rann are courting controversy. That apart, do these lines really come under the realm of some legal proceedings for having distorted the National anthem and for having showed disrespect to it? Hence can it be called a crime in any way? or is it just an outlet of emotions in one's own creative ways? Amitabh Thakur SP (Intll), Faizabad # 94155-34526
